The complete refurbishment and vertical extension of an existing bungalow in rural Somerset

The proposals retain the existing structure and footprint, yet extend and update the home to wishes of the owners and their growing family. The project works to maintain a clear sustainable agenda of improvement, over moving or demolition. The internal and external changes work together to better the natural environment of the the living spaces, taking advantage of the previously underused assets of the site, such as magnificent valley views, the quaint village locale, and its good orientation on the plot.

The existing building is transformed from a dour pebble-dashed bungalow, into a clipped and refined contemporary home. The quality in the design and its outcome has been due to the key product of positive and collaborative client involvement; which led to a passion seen in the clients willingness to be involved in the process of construction to deliver such a high quality with the reasonable costings.
