The project was to design ‘tiny homes’ spaces for garden offices, holiday pods, offices, classrooms and small extensions.
The brief was to develop a design for an off-site panel system to efficiently and creatively assemble the buildings. The design was a collaboration between Mitchell Eley Gould as Architects, Webb Yates structural engineers and Wild & Country joinery and carpentry. The scheme is a culmination of research and development into how to build in a sustainable and ethical way, through the choice of locally sourced materials, natural products and waste reduction. The design uses natural wood fibre and sheep’s wool insulation and British ‘Grown in Britain’ certified timber to create a series of timber cassette panels. These panels become a kit of parts that can be simply manufactured and swiftly erected on site. The scheme is lightweight and touches the ground lightly and has been design to be permanent yet easily relocatable and reusable. The buildings are timber lined and clad using thermally modified timber from British woodland from a local supplier.
