The project was to join two part of this listed Cotswold house.
The original house was separated from the adjacent ol
art shed outbuilding, which had been used as social space and workspace for the family. The brief evolved to link thes
o buildings to provide an inviting entrance space for the family, a connection to the gardens and a functional hall fo
eys, coats and shoes etc. The scheme also needed to take on the significant level change between the two building
nd a connection to the existing basement. The design of the space was inspired by the crafted timber joinery element
f the existing house and uses a scalloped vaulted ceiling perforated with natural light to create a crafted modern spac
hat carefully joins the buildings. The crafted joinery is carried through in the stonework, scalloped wooden doors an
he wrought iron and timber handrails, all of which are a modern reflection of the older house.
