The transformation of an existing end of terrace property with the addition of a new timber clad extension.
The brief for the project was to replace the existing small kitchen with a larger space that engages with the garden.
We achieved this by adding a new timber clad volume that is set away from the rear of the existing terrace. The volume creates a new courtyard that brings light into the existing ground floor of the property and provides a double aspect to the new kitchen.
The form and materials of the new extension have been designed intentionally to contrast with the local context and celebrate the combination of old and new. The simple lap method used to install the larch cladding was inspired by Scandinavian boat houses.
Post-completion the clients enjoy the benefit of a private external space that isn’t overlooked by their neighbours. Natural light is retained to an existing lounge and the new kitchen benefits opens onto the garden.
