A mid-terraced house with full ground floor reconfiguration and a modern butterfly roof extension.
Keen to avoid the mundane lean-to extension, the new rear extension is a modern interpretation of the traditional London Roof. The butterfly roof provides an enlivened architectural language to the rear of a mid-terraced house in North London. The roof form is expressed internally as exposed timber joists and provides a dynamic feature and natural warmth to the new lounge space, which has moved to the rear of the house.
The kitchen has been relocated between the lounge room and the dining room has moved to the bay windowed room to the front.
A new larger galley kitchen provides an open plan connection between the new lounge room and the dining room. The dining room is now perfectly orientated for breakfast with the sun rising from the East. To the West a large hexagonal glass window frames views of the small garden and the setting sun in the evening.
