A ground floor extension houses a new dining room
Will Pryce Download Original
A refurbished semi-detatched Edwardian house, extending the ground floor and remodeling an existing loft dormer.
Mulroy Architects’s refurbishment at this semi-detached Edwardian House included a new ground floor extension to contain a large, glazed dining room and the remodeling of an existing loft dormer that now allows for a luxury master bedroom suite.
By converting the loft, the total floor area of the house was significantly increased by making maximum use of the existing building envelope. In the roofspace, additional headroom was created by dropping the ceilings on the floor below, while the roof’s existing gables were exploited to form a rich and characterful bedroom suite.
On the ground floor, a deep fully glazed extension provides excellent views from the house across the garden, and brings plentiful daylight into the existing kitchen. The garden was also redeveloped in order to make better use of the new relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces and enable a greater level of outdoor living.
