Zinc clad kitchen extension in a conservation area
The existing Edwardian house in a conservation area had a dark and narrow kitchen. Access and views to the garden were limited and blocked by the toilet and utility room that occupied prominent locations on the plan.
To improve the living spaces the toilet and utility room are hidden in the heart of the plan. The dining room is placed next to the garden. Diagonal views between the various areas of the living areas are created with full-height corner windows. This blurs the distinction between the interior and exterior spaces. The new extension is clad in zinc that contrasts with the existing traditional details
