Extension Facade
French & Tye Download Original
A revitalised 1960s mid-terrace building with a brick and timber extension and remodelled interior,
The full-width rear extension includes a glass elevation with a window seat that opens into a garden, the douglas fir structure is exposed on the underside of the ceiling, while the elevation is clad in black stained timber supporting pre-cast concrete gutters that project over the parapets. The extension’s sedum roof provides a natural blanket of insulation.
The project makes innovative use of wide palette of materials, including glass bricks, concrete, plywood, and glazed exterior tiles.
The roof terrace stair was designed as a cost-effective kit of interlocking parts. It is made of over 100 pieces of CNC-cut birch ply, birch dowel, and steel rods which fit as an intricate puzzle and give changing views as you approach from below or above.
Glazed façade tiles showcase hardwearing and timeless materials.
