Residential development of four houses, two certified to Passivhaus standard and two built to identical standards

Part-funded by Norfolk County Council the housing was developed as a prototype to test the viability of Passivhaus to deliver affordable housing.

Materials draw on a locally sourced selection of clay pantiles, brick and naturally finished timber boards.

Careful north/south orientation and solar shading makes best use of passive solar gain. In addition, a compact form, restriction of overall window size with predominantly south facing openings, high levels of insulation, heat recovery ventilation and extensive use of timber for primary structure, all combine to reduce energy loss.
