Cedar-clad home in the back garden of a suburban house in Thames Ditton, Surrey
Built along the boundary wall at the base of the house’s existing garden, the new four-bedroom home is orientated to minimise overlooking from an apartment development to the east while maximizing afternoon sunlight.
The first floor of the house is clad with vertical western red cedar battens above a lower storey of finished with dark grey smooth render. Internally the use of a dark american walnut, polished concrete, with an off-white wall finish aims to gives the project a ‘warm material richness’.
The sustainable building has a ‘highly insulated’ fabric and an integrated heat recovery ventilation system along with solar water panels and a rain-water harvesting system.
