The extension at Herondale Avenue is designed specifically to bring the garden into the home creating a unique open plan kitchen dining and entertainment space.
Working with the clients our aim has been to bring life to the building, to its roof, walls and a new pond, to create opportunities for increased biodiversity. The extension is designed for flora, fauna, insects, amphibians and birds alike to inhabit whilst creating a calm space within which to relax, cook and dine.
A few steps down from the existing house, the extension is formed by two half barrel vaulted sedum roofs that create height and the opportunity to bring natural light in from the sides deep into the plan.
The vaults project beyond the large glazed sliding doors framing the view of the garden and providing shade and shelter. The floor finish and living wall spans from inside to out and the high level glazing creates an airy and bright space which melds seamlessly with the garden. The pond is home to newts and frogs.
