The adaptation of an existing house to suit a young professional family's needs
The project involved adapting a house to suit a young professional family's needs. The solution connected the disjointed ground floor space, while bringing more light to previously dark living spaces. The change in level was overcome through lowering part of the reception room by 320mm.
The opening up of spaces with stepped level changes created the desired ground floor flow. This also allowed for light from new skylights and openings to travel further into the house. However it was important to define each space. This is achieved through built-in features with a small cosy space forming around a bespoke fireplace, while the kitchen/dining is separated by an island and a carefully placed window seat.
The scheme also saw the lowering of the attic space to give new habitable space, forming a lounge space with log stove and pod seating to also provide guest accommodation.
