Our clients undertook a full refurbishment of a derelict Victorian Terrance house in Stoke Newington.

Turning it into a family home with a dynamic space for their young children. On the ground floor, the original floor plan helped provide ease when creating a sequence of interconnected living spaces. We opened and extended the area by adding a glazed roof on a side infill and a glass box rolling out into the garden with a view of the apple tree found in the original overgrown landscape. To add a touch of elegance and functionality, we incorporated art deco-styled wooden glass doors, allowing the option to close off the kitchen while maintaining a connection to the central living areas. With the theme of continued spaces, engineered oak floors span the entire house, starting at the front-facing kitchen, flowing through the dining area, and down the stepped-level change into the living room. This creates effortless zoned areas whilst the open plan brief remains, blending Victorian features and contemporary design creating a sanctuary for the whole family to enjoy. Working our way up the house came the discovery decaying ceiling joists due to leaking gutters calling for us to open the ceiling to the roof on the top floor, transforming the master bedroom. The original brickwork running up the fireplace and walk-in shower enhances the scale. A key feature of the loft extension was the large door, and movable wall, which created a flexible space at the top of the house. Left open, the space becomes an airy open light-filled landing, a snug for reading and relaxing, in earshot of the kids on the floors below.
