SLIDE + LADDER HOUSE
This small project involved the refurbishment of an upper maisonette to accommodate a young family to fully use and enjoy the space
It was not possible to extend due to planning restrictions so the design made sure that every single inch of existing space was maximised. A series of playful interventions such as brightly coloured metal shelves pivoting to become a ladder to allow an escape to a roof terrace, a black valchromat timber slide object tailored along the stairs for the kids to engage with, a bunk bed made from the off cuts of the ash timber balustrade, bespoke hand painted tiles in the shower niches of a nude body (in hommage of the lady that lived there in 1974 as discovered in a secret diary found during the strip out) were all added with elegant joinery storage solutions mixed with accents of colours to create a compact, uplifting and happy family home.
