Maple Lodge
The clients recently moved into the property and whilst the house mostly worked for them, they wanted to have an additional space.
To create a suitable entertaining space which can be also used as a general dining area. Their ambition was to extend to the rear of the property. Initially, it was discussed making use of the existing openings as the link to the house which will have a small benefit to the house. One of the key considerations was light. They didn’t want the new extension to block off any light into the existing property. The finished extension came out over 5m, with a new wildflower sedum roof also laid over the new extension, which can be seen from the balcony area off of the principal suite. The extension features a new interior dining room with full-height glazing and an undercover entertaining space, with two large rooflights over the external seating area, and another smaller stripped rooflight over the new internal dining area. To the corner of the extension, there is an integrated chimney for a new gas fire, with a fully openable corner, integrated joinery, hidden guttering, and underfloor heating. Throughout inside and out, there is a high-quality finish which compliments the existing house. The garden was designed by a landscape designer and centers around a bespoke fire bowl space with a handmade, semi-circular, western red cedar bench set. There is also sandstone paving and an integrated lighting design situated around the extension & the garden space.
