We undertook the refurbishment and extension of a Victorian outhouse within the curtilage of a listed Georgian private residence, thought to have originally been built and used as a privy.
Having completed a bold double height glass extension to the main house, the following year we then turned our attention to the rear terrace and this unused annexe, which the client wished to repurpose as a home office. By adding a structural glass box to the existing building, we have given it a new purpose and a new character, book-ending it with a garden storage area that was clad in charred timber. Insulation and heating was added to enable a temperate climate inside, the roof was reclad preserving all the heritage aspects, and great care was taken at the detail junctions where we connected new structural glass to the existing fabric.
