Glyn House aimed to improve the usability of the rear part of a property that felt disconnected and disruptive to the flow of family life
The design focuses on creating a bright kitchen/dining space with framed views of the garden, while keeping a much needed connection to the front living area through a sculptural double-arch window. When open, the bottom half brings both spaces together while the top half opens to the outside.
A carefully selected palette of materials provides earthy hues that get amplified when natural light hits each surface, making the experience of the space unique. Glyn House showcases innovative design ideas & techniques that have also been understandably challenging in their implementation. Having a half internal/half external double-arch window with a skylight cutting through it has required careful detailing & craftsmanship to ensure its longevity.
Every element of the design was conceived to enhance the experience of the space giving texture with materials such as the exposed lime-washed bricks & polished concrete, contrast through the pristine white ceiling & the monolithic black kitchen island, while bringing everything together with the warmth & tactility of timber.
Carefully placed windows & skylights frame views of the garden and sky while saturating the space with natural light. Attention to detail has been meticulous, ensuring the quality of design doesn’t just stay on paper but translates into a space that can be enjoyed by its users.
