Extension and refurbishment to a Grade II listed 1950s community theatre
The brief was to redesign and refurbish the existing theatre and provided a new 300 seat theatre space, rehearsal room, backstage facilities, entrance and foyer.
Conceived as a sculptural seven-storey structure the new building acts as a catalyst for the cities regeneration. The colour scheme consists of charcoals and bright red incisions with a combination of rough and polished concrete wall surfaces wrapping around the glazed entrance facade. A polycarbonate clad wall conceals the plant and services lighting up at night to form a beacon for the theatre.
Designed to allow easy public access the new building looks to reflect the Belgrade's ambition to be a bold and forward-looking facility.
