Extension and alteration of a Grade II-listed Georgian terrace house in a conservation area in Islington
The brief for the project was to refurbish and alter the existing lower ground floor to act as a self contained granny flat.
This involved adding a new zinc and glass extension to the rear of the house providing living space that opens out to the garden. The original features of the listed building have been retained and a new shower room inserted in the centre of the plan with the bedroom located to the front of the property.
The glazed roof light to the extension allows natural light to penetrate deep into the living space and is framed in European Oak to provide warmth to the simple material palette.
Various storage elements have been incorporated throughout the flat, including a utility room in the old coal vault and a walk in wardrobe.
