An archive store and small meeting room extending this existing architects office

When One 17 Architects and Interior Designers needed to create space for a new interiors studio it decided to free up space currently taken by archive storage.

This required the creation of a new archive store. The main offices were formed by the practice five years ago by converting a 19th-century textiles dyehouse sitting in green belt on the edge of a conservation area.

The form chosen for the extension was a simple lean-to with a catslide roof extended from the main building. As well as purpose built archive storage, the extension provides two work spaces or a small meeting room.

Materials (reused and new local stone and slate) and details (purpose made joinery by a local subcontractor) follow the original conversion scheme and the resulting extension marks the entrance to the staff parking area, which sits between the building, the refurbished mill pond and open fields.
