An adaptation of an external covered space into a flexible space incorporating fold-down architects studio, pull-out meeting space, drive-in carport and open access event space
This architects' studio is a response to the need for a flexible, and changeable, workspace adjoining the client /architects' own wheelchair accessible family home: The Ramp House.
The project was a self build conversion of the house's carport. The aim was to design a space for the architectural studio, which felt separate and focused whilst still a part of the existing house, sharing outdoor space.
The studio has fold away work desks allowing different spatial arrangements for between one and five workers, and a meeting table, for up to seven people which slides under the house stair space.
The front and back of the studio are glass folding doors, which allows connections between both the street and the back garden. When both are open, this brings a new semi public space to the studio's street presence and a more private outdoor space between home and work life.
