Extension and refurbishment to the Manchester School of Art
The architect has overclad and rationalised the school’s nine-storey Chatham Tower and its plinth to provide studios for art students. Alongside the refurbished tower an 8600m2 new building contains design studios, workshops and a gallery.
The 1960s arts tower and the new studio building are linked by a seven storey 'vertical gallery', designed to act as a shop window to the school itself.
