University building housing the departments of Spatial, Graphic and Industrial Design, built during the merger between the University of Salford and University College, Salford
The four storey building has a simple plan. A central corridor creates communal space with studio and seminar spaces leading off. Three service towers allow for easy circulation throughout. Accommodation includes seminar rooms, video-editing suites, lecture halls.
Concrete cross-wall frame construction dictated the nature of the internal spaces. As well as materials such as stainless-steel cladding, concrete and glass-bricks being chosen for longevity and hard-wear.
Internally the spaces are very open. Glass-fronted offices and teaching spaces make users 'on-show'. The idea was to encourage students and colleagues to 'drop-in'.
