The project involved a first-floor extension, a new bathroom and WC on the ground floor, and a new staircase.

Our client wanted a shared study space to enjoy the rear garden view and morning sun. The extension was built above an existing structure that required reinforcement due to its limited strength. To preserve the kitchen layout, all work was carried out externally. The extension features two large aluminum-framed doors and windows, maximizing natural light and garden views. It was divided into two zones, with a centrally positioned entrance ensuring a balanced layout. The rear façade was enhanced with two gable-end dormers and a high-quality render finish for a cohesive aesthetic. A key design goal was to integrate the extension seamlessly with the house. The new staircase and first-floor hallway were carefully planned to maintain a natural flow, making the extension feel like an original part of the property. To enhance accessibility, a new ground-floor shower room was added, and the existing bathroom was upgraded with modern furniture and finishes. A SAP assessment was conducted to evaluate carbon emissions, leading to the decision to double-insulate the loft for improved energy efficiency. Though a relatively simple project, it has greatly enhanced our client’s quality of life. The well-designed spaces not only provide comfort and functionality but also ensure long-term benefits for future occupants.
