An existing outshot was removed, making way for a new open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting space that fully utilises the rear of the home.

The extension was shaped by key constraints: protecting neighbours’ light, accommodating a garden retaining wall, and avoiding an underground combined sewer. These informed the simple geometry of two pitched volumes that slide and intersect to create distinct yet connected family spaces. The pitched roof creates a generous, light-filled rear volume. Sliding doors open from the dining room to a sunken terrace, while a picture window and window seat overlook a raised planting bed. Materials were chosen for their warmth and tactility. Externally, buff brickwork bridges red brick boundary walls and beige pebbledash, with pale mortar and pebble-grey aluminium frames creating a light, muted palette. Brickwork shifts from stretcher to soldier course to define the pitched form. Inside, the brickwork continues from the garden walls, complemented by oak accents to kitchen, furniture, and openings. White marble worktops and a polished concrete floor add robustness to the refined interior.
