Small office refurbishment within a Category B listed mixed use block in the baroque style by Burnet, Boston & Carruthers dating from 1905.
Located on the 5th floor, the existing front offices were owned by the client, Wellington Wealth, a city based IFA company. When the adjacent office space became available, they saw this as an opportunity to expand their current premises and create a dynamic multi-use office space that could also be used for entertainment and craft-based evening classes (the business owners are keen artists and crafters).
GD Lodge Architects was asked to help them realise their vision and also to assist in updating the premises to the latest standards in terms of fire detection, small power, lighting and data.
The B-listed nature of the building limited what could be done with the failing sash and case windows but proposals were put in place for the repair and restoration of the windows including draught proofing and weather sealing. As this is a building-wide problem, these works will be undertaken as part of landlord’s works at a later date. The works were a logistic challenge during the first Covid lockdown, but the team worked well together to overcome this.
