A House For A Film Maker is a project about regeneration.

It is about taking something that sat forgotten, abused, and neglected for decades and showering it with love, attention, enthusiasm, and money. It is about an intrepid young man with three kids taking the risk and putting up the cash to transform a little piece of a struggling neighbourhood into what it was always meant to be: a joyful, modest family home.

That is regeneration.

Physically and practically, it is about filling in a side return to make a large, family centric space filled with light, connecting the restored Victorian house to its garden. A clear, simple and cost-effective statement is made by in-filling the space of the side return with a timber framed, COR-TEN steel clad ribbon.

Conceived as a folded bit of paper, the timber frame, cladding and rooflight detailing is the same for roof and end wall. In fact, the end window is simply a rooflight mounted vertically.

Inside finishes have been restored, working fireplaces reinstated, new sash windows made and woodwork and plaster detailing rehabilitated. New finished have been added in a functional and cost-effective palate. Bathrooms are fitted out in plain white Johnson tiles and Armitage Shanks utility fittings.

Local small businesses have been used to supply the plywood and Fenix kitchen, the new flooring, and the COR-TEN rainscreen.

Annual CO2 emissions data (requested in kg/m2/year) was not provided.
