We have reconfigured the ground floor with a frameless glass side infill side and rear extension.
The small landlocked kitchen has been moved to the heart of the space. Full height sliding doors to the rear frame the view of the garden and District line.
A multifunctional birch plywood box sits at the back of the space, housing the utility and WC, kitchen appliances and door pockets to conceal the full height doors to the hall and Reception rooms. A further pocket door opens to the walk in larder. Heated polished screed complements the brick and birch for a warm palette of materials.
Materials were carefully selected; heated polished screed retains heat and releases it slowly. The exposed brick wall to the kitchen re-used the original bricks removed during the demolition, saving materials and making the scheme less costly.
Accoya fenestration adds longevity to the extension as it is maintenance free and resistant to water and insects. This project allows the original house to be clearly articulated with the new element responding to the host dwelling sympathetically.
Annual CO2 emissions data (requested in kg/m2/year) was not provided.
