Situated on the bustling outskirts of Portsmouth lies Drayton Lane where HGP turned a family home 'modern/sustainable'

The property’s family desired a contemporary overhaul of their existing 20th century home. The original build was deemed limiting in its capacity to serve the family and their social aspirations. The design team worked closely with the client’s family to improve the sustainability and suitability of their existing home.

Updating the appearance of the home was of particular importance. The new front façade boasts grand energy efficient fenestration and modern colour palette. The materiality reflects recent construction choices, with zinc cladding used to create a stark contrast to the sleek white elongated bricks to the ground floor, providing a sleek appearance. The large fenestration and extension of the living room help it fulfil its role as a place of sociability and comfort.

The kitchen provides the client with adequate space to host social gatherings for several individuals whilst retaining a generous open plan feel, leading into a private dining environment featuring relaxing views of the rear garden. The layout upstairs prior to renovation felt restrictive and chaotic. Work undertaken ensures it has become streamlined and the rooms feel delineated; individual in character as a result of the reconfiguration.

Equipped with a Loxone Smart system, the home boasts efficiency in heating and lighting, which is continually monitored by the inbuilt smart system. The property features an abundant PV array on the newly modified flat roof, which feeds directly into this system; ensuring efficient use of the altered flat roof and minimising the overall carbon footprint of the build.
