Demolition of an existing rear lean-to and side bay window, a modest side extension to accommodate a new dining area and kitchen, and a exterior surface and landscaping upgrade
The clients design brief included a list of their design inspirations which covered a wide range of artists, furniture designers and architects who’s work all had a colourful playful aspect to them. We took design cues from the various design inspirations the clients gave us and turned this into a piece of architecture in a bid to merge the balance between the art, architecture and furniture design that the clients love.
The project is low budget, with minimal structural intervention whilst providing maximum impact and character that really expresses the personalities of the clients. We believe that homes can be as unique as their owners and that quality of design and enjoyment in use of space in the home can still be achieved with a fairly modest budget.
The kitchen extension can be seen as 2d graphics from some angles and 3D sculpture from others, whilst at the same time performing all the functional architectural tasks the clients required in their design brief.
The project was approached with a ‘light touch’ redevelopment mentality meaning once the functionality of the space met the design brief, the size of the extension was set, creating a very small extension with maximum impact through the use of materiality, colour and form.
