This project saw the restoration and re-purposing of K8 GPO kiosk
Rescue from scrapyard and restoration of 1970s cast-iron GPO K8 Telephone Kiosk (designer Bruce Martin, architect). The box was on its way to the scrapyard from a building site, but was rescued on the spur of the moment. Transport and relocation of the 1-tonne object was a logistical challenge admirably met by local artisan experts.
It has now been re-purposed as Matlock's version of the '4th Plinth' with a rolling programme of roadside public art installations. It has been much appreciated by the greatly increased passing pedestrian traffic during lockdown.
