For this project, our clients needed an extension to their existing home to accommodate their needs as a family.

We designed an open-plan space that introduces a new kitchen and dining area, lounge and office, and renovated the garden patio to complement the extension.

To ensure the new areas were able to address the various needs of the family, we wanted the spaces to be easily opened up or enclosed as needed. As such the study can be completely sealed off from the lounge through the use of folding doors, and bespoke pocket doors are used to split the kitchen/dining space from the rest of the space while sliding out of view when not in use.

Natural light was an important requirement for the clients and needed to be ample every space regardless of the open/shut configuration.

In response to this we placed two roof lights split between the lounge and office, created a box window in the office and used full height glazed patio doors to connect the lounge to the outdoor patio.

Furthermore the kitchen screening is glazed to take advantage of the light flooding into the other spaces, and a new door and high window were also added to this space.

The combination of flexible spaces, abundant light, bright and natural materiality and colour ensure this extension/renovation is the optimal solution to the family’s needs.
