An extension on the 15th floor of an existing tower block. All component parts had to be carried up the stairs or fit in to the small passenger lift.

At the top of a 15-storey building, this project was inspired by its height. We created a beacon: clean and sharp lines and light-filled space for entertaining which spills out onto the terrace. We opened a stunning view by hiding the structure away. An existing client wanted his new flat modernized. The flat looked in on itself. We saw the chance to make the view the backdrop. Considered design, construction knowledge and close work with the engineer and contractor meant that we made an ambitious project simple. The height and the proximity to the adjacent railway line ruled out a crane, and the size of the passenger lift constrained our materials. Our background in construction meant that we could break down each element of the design into movable pieces, this pragmatic approach meant we didn’t have to compromise on design: we created a flat pack piece of engineered beauty.
