Renovation and extension of a 1900s end-of-terrace Victorian house

The ambition was to transform a dark, end-terrace house into an airy, light-filled and spacious family home.

To achieve this a single-side extension was built forming a new kitchen/dining area while opening up the ground floor into one continuous space. A hip-to-gable rear roof extension also extended the loft space.

A modern glass conservatory with a large format full-height sliding door and a fully glazed skylight was also added.

Throughout the ground floor open-plan living space a monochrome tone has been set with dark grey porcelain floor tiles and matching grey sidewall. The feature is the central island of stripy striato olimpico marble, which wraps over the island and extends to the wall and up-stand.

The ground floor bathroom sets a tone of lavender. Upon opening the full height door you face a wall of violet and dark grey natural marble tiles, and a lavender colour glass sidepanel. The small closet is full of character, enhanced by an arched mirror with recessed light.

Dark grey floor tiles are used again in the first floor bathroom creating a dark, mysterious backdrop to the room. It features bookmatch marble pattern porcelain tiles along the length of the room, and a full-width mirror opposite reflecting the marble, meanwhile enlarging the room.

The top floor bathroom faces east and is beautiful with morning sun, forming the basis of our dawn theme of grey and yellow. A new larger window has been introduced bringing more light in, accentuating the stripy olympico marble and reflecting the idea of the sun rising in the horizon. We continued the stripy theme throughout the loft using a mixed colour scheme of grey and a hint of bold yellow.
