Shop front refurbishments including reinstating original features, new signage, vinyl graphics, window displays, shutter artworks and flank wall murals

YOU&ME worked with London Borough of Haringey and local independent businesses to improve the appearance of 22 shop fronts along West Green Road and High Road in Tottenham, London.

Jointly funded by the GLA and shop owners, YOU&ME designed and built the project on a tight £72,000 construction budget (averaging £32,000 per shopfront).

The architects worked closely with the owners and the local community to deliver shop designs and artwork murals that take cues from the area's rich history, local narratives and the products on offer.

Kejetia's new window displays food products; Mikuly Foods’ new branding is inspired by African textiles and an abstracted map of the local area; West Green Carpets’ shutter artworks display Persian rug patterns and an artwork on Gunaydin side elevation depicts the story of Seven Sisters trees.

The approach was to implement a series of High Street 'clusters' - strategically located to maximise impact and encourage future investment - focusing on sub-standard shopfronts, key corner units and vacant shutters.

The project took one year from start to finish and was completed in October 2015.
