An extension to a Victorian house
This existing Victorian twin gabled detached house is located on a quiet residential street in the heart of the Bowdon conservation area.
In order to not undermine the character of the existing house, the extension has been considered with the house’s proportion and appearance of paramount importance. The main intention with this concept is to give the extension a lightweight persona that is almost invisible against the existing house.
The proposal formed extensions from both the family space and the formal dining area of the house to the rear of the house, each treated in a different manner according to its purpose. Throughout the remainder of the house small interventions were created within the existing structure such as a children’s reading deck within the roof space, a wine cellar within the basement alcoves and a concealed staircase to a loft dressing area.
