Land Based & Environmental Centre. The center offers vocational courses in land based skills
The new Land Based and Environment Centre supports St. Cleres extended services offering vocational courses in land based skills which benefits the local demographical area.
The brief required us to design a simple timber framed potting shed which responded to a process in an ordered way. The building offers a large teaching space with a central bespoke table and perimeter worktops with under counter shelving. The roof overhang encourages outdoor teaching with further worktop and sink facilities.
The design looks to reflect the purpose of the building. Effectively, the building is clad in black stained timber weather boarding, has a slate roof, and treated timber posts, windows and doors. Other works include raised planting beds which are constructed from railway sleepers, weld mesh fencing to secure the area and a 15m irrigated poly-tunnel. A large allotment area is sited in the centre of the Centre. All produce will supply the school’s kitchen or will be sold in farmers markets.
