Conservation and upgrade of Grade II* listed Western Bank Library at Sheffield University, originally designed by Gollins Melvin & Ward
The design aims to adapt the building to serve new working practices, upgrade its fabric and environmental performance, and recapture the elegance, clarity and sense of order that characterised the original design.
The project comprises restoration of the central catalogue hall, creation of a new exhibition area, new reception and control points and provision of new study carrels and group rooms.
The upgrade of these spaces allowed for improvement of access, fabric repair and replacement internally and externally, upgraded heating, electrics and data systems, and improved signage and wayfinding.
