Cabin at Fairygreen
The Cabin at Fairygreen
S&Co designed the cabin at Fairygreen as the latest evolution of its Corr Cabin series. Designed in S+Co’s Edinburgh studio, the cabin is fully modular, manufactured in the Scottish Highlands using homegrown Scottish timber. The client brief was for a “sustainable, Scottish-made cabin where people can switch off and reconnect with nature”, with the site located at the foot of historic Dunsinnan Hill, sat within rural Dunsinnan Farm Estate. The cabin was created from Sitka Spruce, the raw material grown and felled in Scotland, and transformed into high-performance cross-laminated timber (CLT) in a specialist modular facility in Inverness. The walls are super insulated using environmentally friendly wood fibre sheathing and blown cellulose insulation. The cabin has a minimal footprint on the landscape, sitting on reusable ‘jack pads’, avoiding the need for any intrusive, poured foundations. Internally, the CLT finish was left exposed, with the remaining interior finishes.
