Set on a corner plot, Johanna Molineus Architects expanded this home for an art and textiles collector by utilizing the existing splayed plan. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area seamlessly connects to the garden through sliding glazed doors leading to a semi-covered patio. A travertine-tiled floor unites the indoor and outdoor spaces, while strategically placed roof lights maximize natural light. Sustainability was prioritized with an air source heat pump, thermal envelope upgrades, and underfloor heating for improved energy efficiency. The design features natural materials and a soft neutral palette, with bespoke travertine finishes in the kitchen and bathrooms, complemented by warm parquet timber flooring. The minimalist kitchen boasts a solid travertine run and a window seat overlooking a blossoming tree. Architectural details include open-tread timber stairs, minimal handrails, custom joinery with cedar handles, and solid stone accents. Integrated seating, such as a living room bench and window seats, fosters a social atmosphere. The honed, unfilled travertine floor adds rustic charm, providing a neutral backdrop for the client’s art and collections.
