The Birch Pavilion is a thoughtfully crafted garden room at the far end of a Stoke Newington garden, designed as a peaceful retreat for work and leisure.

The pavilion’s design follows the garden’s journey, leading from the main house past flower beds and a greenhouse to its tranquil conclusion. Its curved form responds to the site’s constraints, wrapping softly around three slender birch trees and integrating them into the architecture. This idea of “wrapping” shaped the circular design, with a fan-like structure radiating around the trees as a striking focal point. The curved façade provides a soft, reflective end to the garden, creating a peaceful retreat. Inside, the pavilion is divided into a private workspace and a cozy relaxation corner. Birch plywood connects it to nature, while a cork-lined ceiling adds warmth and enhances acoustics. South-facing openings invite natural light, and curved walls embrace the trees, strengthening the connection to the garden. A key design moment was aligning the beams with the birch trees, forming a fan-like silhouette that embodies the project’s essence. The Birch Pavilion is a serene space for focus and reflection, harmonizing with its surroundings.
