Testone Factory is an office, exhibition space, micro gallery and co-working space for the communications agency Peter & Paul, located in Sheffield.
A central room of 400m2, 20 meters long by 12 meters wide and 4 meters high. Connected to the city at both ends through full-height glazed windows. Organised in strata that combine a flexible foyer, a project-output space, a studio, a library and 2 serviced wings.
An open space that adjoins the public square to the south. A space that can host a video production, an exhibition or a talk. Providing flexible space allows collaboration, hosting and experiment.
Two wings line the flexible centre and contain all the serviced space. The wings support the Factory of Ideas. The west wing includes a micro galley (accessed from the square) meeting rooms, kitchen and plant spaces. The east contains smaller offices that can be rented. Thirty per cent of the plan is given over to spaces that can be rented by local creatives.
The micro spaces are currently occupied by film makers and photographers. This structure allows creative collaborations and commercial sustainability. The small company shares the infrastructure of a large office but pays for a small space. The rental space allows the office to be commercially sustainable.
Adjoining the south square is a micro gallery. Composed of a display cabinet and a projection wall that can display films by invited local creatives. The gallery seeks to invite a public to Kelham and introduce them to an emerging generation of creatives.
