Renovation and two-storey extension of 1980s 'cottage' style detached house for private client
Developed for a private client, the brief was to breathe new life into a tired 1980s detached house in a conservation area in South Bristol. The client, a keen gardener, wanted to be able to enjoy key views of the garden and nearby church throughout the year. The design included the reconfiguration of the internal layout to accommodate a new stairwell and vaulted ceiling, plus the addition of a new two-storey extension incorporating kitchen/diner, utility room and master bedroom above. Timber stud cavity wall construction with either white brick or slate cladding was used throughout. A zinc lined rebated channel articulates the abutment between the new and old structure. A structurally glazed and timber clad bay window projects from the side of the extension to allow the client to feel close to the garden during the autumn and window months. Windows in the master bedroom frame views of the garden and church bell tower.
