Park Hill

Existing disjointed side and rear extensions were demolished and the house structurally opened-up to create a new unifying extension enhancing the appearance of the property and connection with the outside.

Bronze cladding was chosen for its richness of colour and texture, expressing the extension as a new element, simplifying the palette of materials and complementing the brickwork of the original house.

The bronze seams were carefully planned to frame the sliding glass units, with standing seams to the main vertical joints emphasising the two storey element of the new building, and softer folded joints to the horizontals.

The play of light on the bronze is enhanced by the angled reveals and overhangs which give depth and shadow to the forms, while internally the space is filled with natural light. Conceived in elevation as an interlocking whole, the sharp bronze folds of the two storey and single storey elements frame the extent of the intervention to the house, containing a new open plan kitchen and dining room, sitting area, and a rejuvenated first floor study with picture window.
