Residential expansion of Riverside Quarter on the River Thames' bank in Wandsworth

One and Three Riverside are located in Wandsworth Riverside Quarter on the South Bank of the River Thames.

The character of the neighbourhood is that of a typical former Thames-side industrial area, gradually moving from part dereliction to revival for housing purposes, while retaining some elements of historic past to provide reference points for the present.

The site offered a unique development opportunity in the London Borough of Wandsworth and its exceptional architectural and urban heritage. The new development responds appropriately to the existing character and richness of this great heritage by delivering an exceptionally high quality designed scheme.

Conceptually, the two new buildings are designed as 'folded planes' and 'interlocking shells' that unfold and open themselves up to the river. The interplay of their lights and shadows gives each building a layered depth. The form, colour and texture of the family of buildings changes according to the angle and time of day from which they are viewed, representing a dynamic and constantly shifting presence on the skyline.

The architectural articulation of 'planes' and 'shells' produces a pragmatic and rigorous expression which relates to environmental control, sustainability, structure, and views. Every view of the buildings is unique. Architectural motifs, materials, finishes and colour engender a recognisable coherence throughout the scheme, which relates to the built elements of the wider site and gives Wandsworth Riverside Quarter a distinctive identity.

One & Three Riverside Quarter offer a broad range of environmentally aware features to respond to Sustainability’s demand. The scheme has been designed so that mass, orientation, insulation, glazing and solar shading all help reduce the building’s energy consumption, whilst maximising the views towards the River Thames for both private and affordable residential apartments and commercial units.
