A temporary structure containing an interactive artwork, created for the Secret Garden Party Festival in July 2012

It was commissioned by the Secret Arts Foundation and designed and constructed by Guy Woodhouse and Tetsuro Nagata.

First and foremost, the tea pavilion was conceived as a tranquil retreat from the festival madness, where visitors could enjoy a moment to drink tea whilst viewing the scenery of the site. It was a celebration of the simplest of life's pleasures - tea!

Secondly, it was a playful piece, which experiments with ideas of ceremony, ritual and memory, through the use of motion-capture and video projection.

Visitors are able to manipulate the view they have from the pavilion, by reorganising the placement of teacups on the pavilion table. They are also able to interact with previous visitors' arrangements, thus making connections between people's drinking habits and the views out of the pavilion.

OSB and fluted polypropylene sheets were chosen to create a weather-tight and flame retardant structure within the modest budget available. Prefabricated as a kit of parts and set up in London, the installation was tested and then disassembled, transported to Cambridgeshire, and constructed on site within 2 days. Once the festival had concluded, it was disassembled in under 2 hours.
