Temporary timber lighthouse built by a new architectural summer school
Tog is a new live-build summer school. It is open to anyone with a passion for the craft of building; students, architects, engineers, trade apprentices or members of the local community.
The inaugural Tog live-build summer school was hosted on the Isle of Tiree, Scotland, in June 2012. In acknowledgement of the history of the site Tog 2012 built a temporary wooden lighthouse at the place used by Alan Stevenson to construct his famous Skerryvore Lighthouse.
The 5m-high structure was built over six days by the school, with the finished lighthouse acting as a beacon for the project and the ambition of future summer schools.
Tog is the Gaelic word meaning build, raise, educate and excite; which is just what the project achieved.
