Two-storey extension to a 1970s end of terrace in Clapham, south London
For this two-storey extension to a 1970s end of terrace in Clapham, South London, we designed an extended kitchen that looks onto the garden, a completely refitted shower room with a new rooflight, and, at first floor level, a new living space with a bay window and south facing glazing opening onto a remodelled roof terrace.
The relationship between the interior space, the roof terrace and the rear garden was carefully considered to create naturally lit, open spaces throughout the house. A small enclosed courtyard brings sunlight into the kitchen, and timber screens, structural planting and a walk-on rooflight on the terrace create a private space with focal points from both inside and out.
