Roundwood Cottage is a small two bedroom house at Roundwood Quay, on the River Allen near Truro, the site of an Iron Age settlement
The design was constrained by the location in an AONB and ASSI and by agreements with neighbouring owners restricting siting and height.
The single storey house comprises a simple double pitch roofed volume to the front of the site containing living areas focused on the oblique views of the creek. Bedrooms are arranged around a small entrance courtyard to the rear that allows light to penetrate the tightly packed site.
Construction is timber frame clad in black corrugated steel chosen for links to the history and context of the site and for recessive simplicity. Locally grown larch brings warmth to the courtyard. Custom glazing in Oak, metal framed windows, a courtyard paved with slate (continued to the interior) and a small planted roof complete the palette.
