Doubling up
A whole-house refurbishment and extension in 2014 transformed a three-bedroom property into a modern six-bedroom home.
The project introduced a side extension, internal reconfigurations, and a striking triangular window that floods the stairway with natural light. The renovation created an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space while maintaining the home's Victorian character. Comprehensive updates included rewiring, replumbing, and re-roofing, ensuring long-term functionality and efficiency. In 2021, the team had the opportunity to revisit and enhance a previous project, adapting it to the evolving needs of the homeowners. With a growing family, additional living space became essential, leading to a carefully designed rear ground-floor extension that seamlessly integrates with the existing structure. The extension introduces a spacious boot room and an expansive lounge/dining area, creating a functional and comfortable environment for gatherings. The layout was meticulously planned to accommodate existing drainage systems and minimize overshadowing of neighbouring properties, maintaining harmony within the local context. To complement the new living areas, the garden underwent a transformation, becoming a welcoming outdoor space. The removal of an existing garage preserved the overall garden size while enhancing both aesthetic and functional value. Sustainable design features, including energy-efficient glazing and high-performance insulation, significantly improved the home's thermal efficiency and reduced energy consumption. The extension remains in harmony with the architectural language of the original house and previous additions, ensuring a cohesive appearance. Internally, the open-plan layout enhances flexibility, while large sliding doors establish a seamless connection with the newly refurbished garden. Adjustments to the internal level change improved accessibility and engagement with the outdoor space. Construction concluded in 2024.
